Wimbledon's ban on Russian and Belarusian players during the 2022 edition of the tournament has "changed nothing", according to the world number five Aryna Sabalenka.
Sabalenka, who is from Belarus, was one of several players to miss out on the grass court Grand Slam, after the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) imposed the ban in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Organisers were fined and the tournament was stripped of ranking points by the ATP and WTA.
Speaking to Australian newspaper The Age, Sabalenka, said: "I'm just really disappointed sport is somehow in politics.
"We're just athletes playing their sport. That's it. We're not about politics. If all of us could do something [about the war], we would do it, but we have zero control.
"They banned us from Wimbledon, and what did it change? Nothing - they're [the Russian government] still doing this, and this is the sad [part] of this situation."
AELTC, who organises Wimbledon, is yet to announce if the ban will remain in place in 2023.
Sabalenka is hopeful to return to SW19, after she reached the semi-finals during the 2021 edition.
