Remaining British hopefuls Lily Miyazaki and Jodie Burrage failed to make it through to the main draw of the Australian Open on Thursday.

Miyazaki was beaten by American big-hitter Coco Vandeweghe in a gruelling encounter in Melbourne, going down 3-6 6-7 (7-3) 7-6 (10-1) in the final qualifying round.

Burrage fell to a 6-3 1-6 6-2 loss against Selena Janicijevic of France, meaning that all nine Brits who entered qualifying failed to make it through to the main draw of the Grand Slam.

There is still British interest in Melbourne with seven players in the main singles draws providing Emma Raducanu recovers from an ankle injury she picked up last week.

Among those who did make it through were a pair of Czech teenagers - 15-year-old Brenda Fruhvirtova, who joins sister Linda in the draw, and 16-year-old Sara Bejlek.
