Audi Formula Racing CEO Adam Baker has told German newspaper Sport Bild that the manufacture's aim is to be fighting at the top of the F1 grid by their third year.
Audi are entering Formula 1 in 2025 in partnership with the Sauber team - currently named Alfa Romeo - at the next major F1 rule change.
“We want to keep improving," said Baker.
“Our goal is to be among the front runners in the third year. For that we need a top engine.
"We want to show what ‘Made in Germany’ stands for: a reliable power unit at the highest level."
Although German giants Mercedes have been a powerful force in F1 for almost a decade, the Silver Arrows car and engine are made in the UK.
Audi are set to produce the first German power unit in F1 since 2009 with BMW, and they clearly have ambitious targets.
