Real Madrid do not have many options at striker right now. Karim Benzema might be the reigning Ballon d’Or holder but we have seen him struggle with a series of fitness issues this season. They have clearly had an effect on his form as well. While the Frenchman is still scoring goals, he just does not look like the unstoppable force from last season.
On the other hand, the only other recognised forward in the squad is Mariano Diaz, who appears to be out of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and is expected to leave the club next summer, when his contract runs out.
As a result, Ancelotti has had to play Rodrygo in a false nine role in the absence of Benzema on numerous occasions. While the Brazilian has not looked bad playing there, it is pretty clear that he is not ready to carry the goalscoring burden of Real Madrid on his own.
Thus, Real Madrid could do with another option up front. Their big target for the summer is believed to be Jude Bellingham though. Thus, could the club go for a short-term fix at striker before trying to sign Benzema’s long-term successor next year?
