Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • City have only failed to win two of their home games across all competitions
  • City have beaten a -1 handicap in seven of their last nine home wins
  • Spurs’ last three defeats have been by two-goal margins

Duo clash after respective derby defeats

Manchester City and Tottenham meet in the Premier League on Thursday and both sides will be desperate to respond after derby defeats over the weekend.

City went down 2-1 against Manchester United and are now eight points behind leaders Arsenal, who claimed a 2-0 win against Spurs. The defending champions may well find themselves in third spot by the time they kick off against Tottenham as United have a chance to leapfrog them when they face Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Spurs sit in fifth spot but they are no five points off the pace in the fight for a top four finish – but they will struggle to get anything at the Etihad Stadium.

Expect a City response

Spurs did the double over City last term, including a memorable 3-2 win in the corresponding fixture in February, but they head into this game in poor form and were second best for the majority of their game against Arsenal last time out.

In contrast, City were hit by a late rally at Old Trafford and they controlled that game for large periods, ultimately paying the price for not taking their chances early on.

Guardiola’s men will be desperate to put that right after losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, and they should be able to get back to winning ways against a Spurs side lacking in both ideas and confidence.

City are a short price to win so for the main bet the hosts with a -1 handicap looks a reasonable option in this fixture. The Manchester side have only failed to win two of their home games across all competitions this term and seven of their last nine victories at the Etihad Stadium have been by two or more goals, while Spurs’ last three losses have all been by two-goal margins.
