Pragmatic Play takes to the ice once again in Hockey League Wild Match. This 5 reel, 9 payline sequel to Hockey League looks similar to the original but comes with a different range of features. The design in Hockey League Wild Match takes its cue from the original slot – joining the A to J playing cards are the same trio of players. Once again, the ref is the most rewarding symbol, this time offering payouts of 200 coins for a 5-in-a-row combo.
The Stanley Cup-style trophy is the wild, substituting for everything bar the scatter – landing just 1 of these guarantees a payout, albeit of just 1 coin. Land 5 on a payline for a 5,000 coin payout. These wilds can land fully stacked and fill up any or all of the 3 middle reels on any spin.
The hockey puck is the game’s scatter – 3, 4 or 5 of these anywhere on the reels will get you a payout of 2, 5 or 20 times your stake. They’ll also trigger the Free Spins feature and with it, 10, 15 or 25 free spins. All winning combinations landed during the feature are boosted by a 3x multiplier and trebled.
Just like Pragmatic Play’s first outing on ice, Hockey League Wild Match is fairly simple as far as design goes. The images are done cartoon style. Better is the backing track which features slaps of the puck on the boards and plenty of organ accompaniment.
The features are a little different to the original too – we found plenty of action in both the base game and the free spins round. Multiple stacked wilds can pay rich dividends, especially when combined with the trebling multiplier in the free spins round. Overall, we’d put the variance in the medium range.
It may not win any awards for beauty (but if you look at the faces of the players in an average NHL hockey team that’s no great surprise) but Hockey League Wild Match offers plenty of action. If you’re a fan of the game or not, it’s worth donning your virtual skates and having a look.
