Heckingbottom laughs off McBurnie-Leeds link
Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom hopes the club can open contract talks with striker Oli McBurnie after laughing off speculation linking him to Leeds.Rumours on social media suggested the Championship outfit were eyeing a move for McBurnie, but Heckingbottom says there has been no contact between the two clubs.
McBurnie, who was born in Leeds, is out of contract in the summer and Heckingbottom wants him to stay.
Asked if he wants talks to begin with the Scotland international, he said: "I hope so, yes".
It was a categoric "no" when asked whether Leeds had contacted the Blades before Heckingbottom added: "Yes, he's staying."
McBurnie has returned to training this week and is in contention for a return for Friday's visit to Nottingham Forest.
