Brentford vs Southampton Predictions

  • Southampton have lost seven of their ten away matches in the Premier League this term
  • Five of Brentford’s seven league wins this season have come on home soil
  • Saints have found the net in six of their ten away games in the league this season
  • Ivan Toney has bagged 13 goals in 18 league fixtures this campaign

Saints hoping cup exploits will provide confidence boost

Southampton fell at the penultimate hurdle in the EFL Cup on Tuesday this week, crashing out in the semi-finals against Newcastle, and the club must now turn their attention back to the Premier League relegation battle.
Nathan Jones’s side battled bravely across the two legs with a strong Newcastle side, losing 1-0 at home in the first leg and 2-1 away in the second, and they will be hoping that their cup runs (they are also through to the fifth round of the FA Cup) will give them a confidence boost in the league.
There is certainly plenty of work to do with Saints rock bottom of the standings with 13 defeats in 20 league matches but since returning from the World Cup break, they have at least picked up wins over Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Everton and Blackpool in all competitions.

Beating Brentford could be a bridge too far

They are a young side and are still improving under former Luton boss Jones, although it may be asking too much of them to win away to a Brentford side who have lost just once at home in the league this season.
The buzzing Bees are only a handful of points off the European places in the Premier League and since the season’s hiatus, they have held Tottenham and Leeds to draws and beaten West Ham, Liverpool and Bournemouth in the league.
Brentford look a worth pick to win this game, while as far as a correct score prediction goes, 2-1 looks a wise selection.

Goals could be on the cards in West London

Brentford are conceding on average a goal per game at home in the league this term and Southampton reinforced their front line on transfer deadline day with the additions of winger Kamaldeen Sulemana and striker Paul Onuachu, who could both be in line to feature in this game.
Ivan Toney has once again been Brentford’s main man this season, averaging a goal every 124 minutes in the Premier League, and he has managed to get on the scoresheet in four of his side’s last six league fixtures.
With that in mind, Toney could be a good selection to score at any time in this contest with Southampton, who have leaked 18 goals in ten league matches on the road this term.
