Bologna vs Spezia Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in six of Bologna’s last eight Serie A games.
  • Spezia, meanwhile, have seen both sides net in six of their last nine outings.
  • Bologna and Spezia shared an entertaining 2-2 draw in September’s return fixture.

Goals a staple at Renato Dall’Ara

Bologna coach Thiago Motta comes face-to-face with his former club on Friday as the Rossoblu host Spezia at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, and punters should expect to be entertained. While neither side will arrive at the game high on confidence after seeing hugely encouraging runs fizzle out, both have been involved in several end-to-end affairs of late, which will be music to the ears of both teams to score backers.
The hosts were held to a disappointing draw by winless Cremonese last time out, contriving to lose the expected goals (xG) battle in a 1-1 draw where they enjoyed 68 per cent of the possession. Bologna have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, having won five of their last six before Serie A paused for the World Cup in November. Motta’s side have been haunted by an inability to keep clean sheets, with six of their last eight league matches containing goals at both ends – though their tally of 24 league goals is the best in the division’s bottom half this campaign.
Spezia, meanwhile, have suffered back-to-back losses, albeit against tough opponents in Atalanta and Roma, to make their recent five-game unbeaten run a distant memory. Luca Gotti’s men have seen both sides net in six of their last nine outings, in which they have shipped a total of 15 goals – five of them in an enthralling 5-2 Coppa Italia defeat against Atalanta just last week.

Out-of-shape sides to net in Bologna

With neither Bologna nor Spezia inspiring enough confidence for a tip on the result markets, backing both teams to net appears a prudent play after the teams shared a 2-2 draw in September’s reverse fixture.
However, there may well be a victor this time around. Only five teams – four of the current top five plus Juventus – have earned more than Bologna’s 16 home points this season in Serie A, and home advantage could see them through to a 2-1 win.
