Atalanta vs Spezia Predictions

  • Atalanta have seen over 2.5 goals scored in each of their last six games, including an 8-2 demolition of Salernitana last time out.
  • Spezia have seen a minimum of three goals scored in four of their last seven matches.
  • Atalanta are unbeaten in their five competitive meetings with Spezia, the last four of which have contained over 2.5 goals.

Atalanta find shooting boots

Atalanta made headlines by hammering Salernitana 8-2 in Serie A on Sunday, continuing a run of goal-laden games for La Dea in recent weeks and keeping them within touching distance of the top four. On Thursday, Atalanta turn their attentions to the Coppa Italia, in which they have finished as runners-up twice under Gian Piero Gasperini, hosting an in-form Spezia side with whom they drew 2-2 earlier this month.
Atalanta have won back-to-back games since scoring a last-gasp equaliser at Spezia in early January, casting aside a run of poor form which saw them drop out of the top four. While Gasperini’s men started the season with a strong defensive record, they have conceded 12 goals in their last six games, but they have found the net 16 times. Each of La Dea’s last six games has featured over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, and more of the same may be expected on Thursday.
Spezia, meanwhile, claimed an excellent 1-0 win at Torino last time out to extend their unbeaten run to five Serie A matches, moving Luca Gotti’s men nine points clear of the drop zone. The Aquilotti performed well before squandering a 2-0 lead against Atalanta a fortnight ago, but they have never beaten La Dea – who have scored 13 goals in the teams’ last four head-to-head meetings. Four of Spezia’s last seven games, meanwhile, have contained over 2.5 goals, and they may struggle to keep Atalanta at bay, particularly if Gotti makes changes.

Hosts to maintain free-scoring form

With Atalanta seemingly back to their best in front of goal, backing them to win a game containing over 2.5 goals against Spezia – who have never avoided defeat in Bergamo – looks prudent.
Meanwhile, a 3-1 victory for Gasperini’s team looks like a strong correct score prediction, with Atalanta netting 19 times in their nine home Serie A fixtures this campaign.
