Atalanta vs Salernitana Predictions

  • Atalanta have seen over 2.5 goals scored in each of their last five games.
  • Salernitana have seen a minimum of three goals scored in four of their last five matches, failing to win during that run.
  • Salernitana have shipped 16 goals in eight away Serie A games this season – more than all but four teams in the Italian top flight.

La Dea bounce back

Atalanta went into the World Cup break in dire form, losing three successive Serie A games to slip out of the top four after losing just one of their first 12 this season. While La Dea’s poor run looked set to continue on their return against Spezia, a last-gasp equaliser spared their blushes before they clinched a 2-1 win at Bologna. Sunday’s game against Salernitana now represents the ideal opportunity for Gian Piero Gaspernini’s team to build some momentum.
Indeed, Atalanta looked to have put themselves in top-four contention after discovering a sense of defensive solidity earlier this season, but they have looked more like the gung-ho Dea teams of old in recent weeks – their last five games have all contained over 2.5 goals. There have been 22 goals scored in Atalanta’s eight home Serie A games this season, with Gasperini’s side only winning three times in Bergamo. Though they will be favourites on Sunday, they may not have it all their own way.
Salernitana approach Sunday’s match in the midst of a five-game winless run, with Davide Nicola’s men drawing at home to Torino in their last outing. Concerningly, Salernitana have lost the expected goals (xG) battle in six consecutive games, conceding multiple goals in four of their last five. On the road, Nicola’s men have shipped 16 goals in eight Serie A outings. However, they may carry a threat going forwards after netting eight times in their last six games.

Atalanta set for rare home joy

Given Atalanta’s superior attacking quality and Salernitana’s poor run, backing the hosts for victory appears a no-brainer. However, adding over 2.5 match goals into the mix will secure punters additional value, with Salernitana managing a decent return of 21 goals in 17 league games this term.
Meanwhile, a 3-1 victory for Gasperini’s men could represent a decent correct score prediction as they look to revitalise their bid for a top-four place.
